Community and Belonging impacts the campus community through Civic & Community Engagement. We coordinate meaningful community engagement experiences to address university and community needs. In collaboration with community partners, we strive to promote service and positive social change. We offer volunteer and employment opportunities through campus and community events and the IMPACT federal work-study program.

We help coordinate campus-wide community service efforts like The Big Event, the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, and the GEWW and Homecoming days of service. |
Alternative Service Break (ASB) is a unique learning experience when students travel to perform meaningful and reflective service. Students participate in a variety of cultural, educational and reflective activities that do good and meet community needs. Previous trips have focused on addressing issues like food insecurity, homelessness, and advocating for civil and environmental rights. |
IMPACT is a work-study program that connects Southern Miss students with partners in Hattiesburg. Work-study eligible students are placed at service sites with the goal on increasing their appreciation for civic engagement and improving their career readiness. IMPACT student employees work up to 20 hours per week. |

Southern Miss wants our students to track their service efforts with our volunteer platform:
- Volunteer hours must be entered the Friday before finals begin every semester.
- Registered student organizations can use Get Connected to track group service hours.
- Provides a quick way for your service event attendees to gain credit for the service that they complete with your organization
