- Tutoring & Peer Mentorship – TRIO-SSS Scholars looking to achieve academic success in their courses are eligible for free one-on-one peer or small group tutoring with TRIO-SSS Tutors. These tutors also serve as peer mentors who provide a leadership perspective on how to navigate the campus. Through shared experiences, peer mentors will guide you to academic and personal success on the Southern Miss campus.
- Academic Counseling, Financial Literacy and Personal Advising – Scholars will receive a variety of comprehensive academic support services from their assigned TRIO academic coach with special focus on academic achievement, financial literacy, and personal advisement.
- Computer Lab equipped with PCs and iMACs & Free Printing - Scholars have exclusive access to a fully suited computer lab and learning space equipped with both PC and iMAC computers and free printing.
- Student Success Skills Workshops - Success workshop seminars are informative sessions facilitated by faculty and administrators from across campus that enhance students' capacity for learning and foster academic, personal, professional, and holistic exposure and growth.
- Career and Professional Development – Scholars receive guidance in academic and career exploration. We also provide individual or group guidance with resume’ writing, interview assistance, job search strategies, and other support that will help students plan a successful transition from the university setting to a rewarding career.
- Assistance with Financial Aid and Scholarship Processes - In conjunction with the Office of Undergraduate Scholarships and the Financial Aid Office, we are able to provide FAFSA assistance to help students understand and complete their financial aid application. TRIO-SSS staff and peer mentors are also available to assist with the scholarship process.
- Leadership and Service Initiatives – Scholars are invited to apply for our TRIO-SSS Ambassadors Program to serve as leaders within TRIO-SSS and the Southern Miss campus. Scholars interested in service are given the opportunity to participate in campus and local service initiatives with their community of TRIO-SSS Scholars.
- Cultural and Social Enrichment Activities - Students looking to expand their college experience beyond the classroom are welcome to join us for a variety of cultural and social events designed to build community and foster exposure to diversified experiences and cultures.
- Advocacy and Support – TRIO- SSS provides scholars the support needed to complete their studies and assists them in successfully maneuvering through the university system.
- Supplemental Grant Aid - TRIO-SSS may also provide supplemental grant aid to current first and second year enrolled scholars who are also Federal Pell grant recipients in good academic standing.
