Center for Digital Humanities

The Center for Digital Humanities (CDH) at The University of Â鶹´«Ã½ supports academics and institutions in Mississippi who use digital tools to explain, study, and preserve scholarship in the humanities.  We provide training in the digital humanities through workshops, summer programs, and undergraduate and graduate classes, and work one-on-one with scholars to conduct and present their research using the most effective and up-to-date digital tools available.  The center is housed in the School of Humanities.

As an interdisciplinary research center supported by an R1 institution, the center benefits from strong relationships with faculty in English, History, Philosophy and Religion, as well as faculty affiliates in Computer Science, Geography and the Ecospatial Lab, and Cook Library’s Digital Lab.

What are the "Digital Humanities"?

Digital scholarship is more than the application of digital tools and platforms to humanities research; it considers how digital technology shapes knowledge and how the use of digital tools can make information—from scholarly studies to archival collections—more accessible to the public. The digital humanities use a broad array of digital tools to map relationships and places, photographically or virtually reconstruct spaces, explore connections between people or language, and transform two-dimensional archives into visually compelling collections that link resources to artifacts.

The digital humanities are one of the fastest-growing interdisciplinary fields in academia for two key reasons: DH provides tools to enhance and expand scholarly research and publication, and DH fosters collaboration. The Center for Digital Humanities is the place for those collaborations.
