General Category Snippets

Page Content

Reusable content that allows the Content Editor the ability to edit and customize the content of the snippet, while retaining the look and feel of the design. Snippets are broken up into categories:

  • Email campaign Manager
  • Embedded Snippets
  • Full Width
  • General
  • Homepage
  • Sidebar Content
  • Training

These categories let you know the best types of situations that a snippet can be used in. The main category of snippets for most users is the general category. For pages with sidebars, the general category has some really useful snippets to make your pages look better and get your information across to the visitor in a effective way. Here is the complete list of snippets in the general category.

Uses: Putting two items side-by-side on a page, such as in the example with a photo on one side and text on the other. The Undergraduate Â鶹´«Ã½ home page also uses this to put text side by side to break up their different options. Arts and Sciences uses it to display their list of Centers and Institutes.

Accordion

An accordion can be used to put lots of text on a page without overwhelming the visitor. With the text hidden, they can choose to reveal more about what they want to read. You can see the School of Social Work uses the accordion snippet to add more content to their outcomes section without cluttering the page initially with more graphs and graphics that the visitor might not be interested in.

In a 2007 article titled "Content Strategy: The Philosophy of Data," Rachel Lovinger describes the goal of content strategy as using "words and data to create unambiguous content that supports meaningful, interactive experiences." Here, she also provided the analogy that "content strategy is to copywriting as information architecture is to design."

Accordion - First Panel Opened

The accordion with the first panel opened is used just like the accordion above, with the difference of putting your most popular choice already opened so the visitor can get to it quickly.

Block Quote

A block quote highlights certain text so that visitors that are skimming the page clearly see it.

Block Quote Float Right

The Block Quote Float Right snippet puts the quote on the right of some other element like a block of text so that it is clearly associated with that area of text and pulled out for emphasis.

This is a block quote float right!

Decipherment ship of the imagination with pretty stories for which there's little good evidence another world at the edge of forever invent the universe. Call To Action Module

The Call To Action Module is used to highlight certain links or next steps you would like the visitor to make. It is typically located below an informational section trying to convince the visitor to take that action. You can see an example at the bottom of our Accounting degree page.

Gold Background Full Width Slider

This snippet shows up under the general section, but is generally better displayed on a full-width page. It can highlight a group of pages about a particular topic that may be relevant to your visitor. A call-to-action (CTA) is displayed afterwards to encourage a next step.

Image List

The image list can provide a way to put multiple images with associated links on a page in a two-column display. The link is already styled and image is automatically sized to fit. The School of Humanities uses the image list to point their visitors to their career pathways and awards.

Tip: The text under the link should be limited to fit the space. Tease the next page through a quick summary of why the visitor should go to it.

Manual Faculty List

This is our standard layout for faculty/staff lists in pages such as "Meet our Team" or "About Us". Most column titles can be changed if you need it, but we encourage site owners to keep them as consistent as possible so that visitors can clearly see differences.

For the faculty list, the name should link to the professors corresponding page in the Faculty Directory that is sourced from Digital Measures.

Some sites have chosen to combine the accordion snippet with the Manual Faculty List for better clarity into their structure such as School of Psychology's people page.
