Cross-Cultural Sensitivity and Cultural Perspectives

World Languages faculty are dedicated teachers who develop students鈥 cross-cultural sensitivity and a keen awareness of cultural perspectives. We offer a range of courses including Latin American and Francophone culture and history, French and Spanish in the Americas, and topics such as conversation, phonetics, comics, cuisine, and cinema. We help students conduct and present their own research. Faculty research areas include online learning, sociolinguistics, teaching with technology, teacher education, and gender and writing.

Become a Spanish or French Teacher

The World Language (Language Education) program prepares graduates to become credentialed K-12 teachers in Spanish and French.  World Languages faculty are highly specialized teachers who develop students鈥 language proficiency, cross-cultural sensitivity and critical awareness of cultural perspectives. We offer a range of courses including Latin American and Francophone culture and history, French and Spanish in the Americas, and topics such as phonetics, comics, cuisine, literature, and cinema. These courses promote critical thinking, language development, and a nuanced understanding of the human experience in different cultural and linguistic contexts. This nationally recognized program also provides research and career training. It offers two different internship or 鈥減athway experiences鈥 toward career readiness: study abroad and a capstone field placement semester. Graduates of this program wear a special pathway experience cord at commencement ceremonies.
