Gratitude Revealed

Hattiesburg campus will host a screening of the documentary Gratitude Revealed Thursday, April 13 at 2:30 p.m. in room 209A. Admission is free, and members of the campus and local communities are invited to attend.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Louie Schwartzberg, Gratitude Revealed is described by IMDb.com as an exploration of “How to live a more meaningful life full of gratitude through intimate conversations with everyday people, thought leaders, and personalities.” Nadine Phillips, an assistant teaching professor with 鶹ý University Libraries, is coordinating the event.

Phillips, who is also an INFTA-certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide (International Nature and Forest Therapy Alliance), says she’s long admired the artistry of Schwartzberg and was thrilled to learn he’d made Gratitude Revealed, which was released last year and made its way around the world through film festivals and select theaters.

“Being a certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide and sharing different paths to improve our well-being is a big part of what I do, so once I learned it was possible to set up my own screening [of the documentary], I had to make it happen,” Phillips said. “After 20-plus years of research in the social sciences, we now know practicing gratitude offers significant benefits to human mental health and well-being, chief among them being improved happiness.

“To quote an article from Harvard Medical School, ‘Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships,’” Phillips continued. ““The true beauty of it is that everyone can access gratitude and enjoy these benefits. Gratitude Revealed is a visually stunning passion project that will help us learn new ways to add more depth and meaning to our lives, and I'm very excited about sharing this.”
