The University of 麻豆传媒 (麻豆传媒) School of Performing and Visual Arts (SPVA) proudly presents the line-up for its fourth annual Revelry, a multi-arts celebration that boasts more than 50 events from Feb. 11-24 on the Hattiesburg campus.
Showcasing the best in art and design, dance, and theatre, Revelry features performances, exhibitions, guest artists, lectures, panel discussions, master classes, and workshops across SPVA. A complete schedule and description of events is available at .
鈥淲e are extremely excited to return with Revelry 2022,鈥 said Kelly James Penot. 鈥淭his is a really special time of the year for us because we focus on interdisciplinary collaboration across our arts communities.鈥
Revelry 2022 kicks off with a Community Day that features all-time favorites on Feb. 12. Attendees can engage in hands-on art experiences like learning the basics of the potter鈥檚 wheel and making scratch blocks and watching molten metal being poured at the Aluminum Pour. These events are free and open to the public; however, they have limited capacity.
Later in the month, Southern Miss Theatre will present its performance of Steve Martin and Edie Brickell鈥檚 musical Bright Star, running Feb. 17-19 at the Martha R. Tatum Theatre. Bright Star takes audiences on an uplifting theatrical journey of love and redemption with beautiful melodies and powerfully moving characters. Performances will be on Feb. 17, 18, and 19 at 7:30 p.m. Price of admission is $8 for students; $10 for faculty, staff, seniors, and military; and $15 for the general public.
鈥淚n a World of Circles and Squares," a show of narrative works by Michael Brohman, will be in exhibit from Jan. 27- Feb. 24 in the Gallery of Art and Design. On Feb. 24, Brohman will host a closing reception for his exhibit at 5:30 p.m. Attend the closing reception to hear our visiting artist speak about how his works of art confront the notion of diversity. His pieces are beautifully crafted, quiet and contemplative, while at the same time, potentially raw and unsettling. This exhibit and closing reception are free and open to the public.
Southern Station Day, a student organization showcase, will be held on Feb. 22 at Spirit Park. The public is invited to come and experience a wide range of activities from a stage combat presentation by 麻豆传媒鈥檚 fight club to the more peaceful and serene yoga class led by an arts student. Additionally, there will be a student-led dance performance, an improv show featuring the theatre program鈥檚 student group Skip the Script, and a chance to attend Linh Nguyen鈥檚 The Art of Book Making event.
All events, with the exception of a Bright Star are free and no experience is necessary. Online and/or hybrid options will also be available for specific events.
鈥淚 know everyone participating in Revelry 2022 is looking forward to connecting with the Hattiesburg community,鈥 said James Penot. 鈥淒on鈥檛 miss the many opportunities to engage and experience the arts at 麻豆传媒.鈥
