Dr. Laurel Hodges

Associate Professor

Bio


Dr. Hodges teaches undergraduate Spanish courses and graduate courses in Spanish, pedagogy, and linguistics for the Master of Arts in the Teaching of Languages (MATL) program, which she recently directed. She has also coordinated the TESOL Graduate Certificate program. Her research has centered on second language acquisition from a variationist perspective. Her most recent projects have focused on the pedagogy of linguistics, the creation of community among language learners through social media tools, and the teaching of culture in the language classroom. She has presented her research at the Hispanic Linguistics Symposium, the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Annual Convention, the International Society for Exploring Teaching and Learning (ISETL), the Southern Conference on Language Teaching (SCOLT), and the Mississippi Foreign Language Association's Annual Conference.
