Dr. Douglas W. Bristol, Jr.:

  • "African American Experience in World War II" Dr. Bristol was featured on the video blog "Scholars in a Bar," a production of the University of 麻豆传媒's Gulf Coast campus.  Dr. Bristol discusses his latest research on the history of World War II and the state of research into Black Americans during the war.  To watch, .

Dr. Kevin Greene:

  • "The National Guard and the War on Terror."  Drs. Kevin Greene and Andrew Wiest presented this talk as part of the "History is Lunch" series of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.  Drs. Greene and Wiest discussed the changing nature of the National Guard in the last thirty years as the force transformed from a group of weekend warriors serving as first responders to disasters into a kinetic battlefield force whose units often deploy multiple times to combat zones.   • 鈥淰ietnam: War Abroad, Conflict at Home.鈥 Drs. Kevin Greene and Andrew Wiest presented as part of the "History Is Lunch" series hosted by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.  Dr. Greene discussed the ways in which the draft and the war affected southern culture, southern colleges and universities, southern politics, and the Civil Rights Movement in Mississippi.   • Book talk for Saigon at War: South Vietnam and the Global Sixties hosted by Cambridge University Press. Dr. Stur examined the political and cultural dynamism of the Republic of Vietnam until its collapse on April 30, 1975. To watch, .
  • 鈥淲ho Gets to Tell the Vietnam War Story?鈥 Dr. Stur鈥檚 lecture was part of 鈥淰ietnam War / American War Stories: A Symposium on Conflict and Civic Engagement鈥 hosted by Indiana University. She discussed how the voices of South Vietnamese, women, and U.S. support troops are crucial for understanding how the conflict developed and played out, what its consequences were, and what its legacies are.   • "The Vietnam War (1964鈥1973)." Dr. Stur's lecture was part of the Foreign Policy Research Institute's "Teaching Military History" series "Why Does America Go to War?" Dr. Kenneth Swope:

  • "Trickle-down Confucianism: War, Reconstruction, and Cultural Assimilation in the Late Qing" is a talk Dr. Swope gave at the Lieberthal-Rogel Center for Chinese Studies (LRCCS) at the University of Michigan in November of 2023.  Dr. Swope provides an overview of Zuo Zongtang's campaigns against the Dungan rebels in Shaanxi and Gansu provinces, and against Yakub Beg in Central Asia with an emphasis upon his programs for social rejuvenation and cultural assimilation in the aftermath of these massive uprisings.  To watch, .
  • "Interview with Dr. Ken Swope" from the website WarScholar.org features an interview with Dr. Swope on his book On the Trail of the Yellow Tiger: War, Trauma, and Social Dislocation in Southwest China During the Ming-Qing Transition.  To watch, .
  • 鈥淓xperiencing War in Seventeenth Century China鈥 from Confucius Institute at University of Michigan. Dr. Swope discussed the tumultuous Ming-Qing dynastic transition, which was one of the bloodiest and longest in China鈥檚 history, and the literature that was produced during the period. Dr. Wiest talked about Pham Van Dinh and Tran Ngoc Hue, who were two of the brightest young officers in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam, and how the two officers ended up taking two very different paths during the Vietnam War. Dr. Kyle F. Zelner:

  • For the "Perspectives in Military History Annual Lecture Series," hosted by the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center and the U.S. Army War College, Dr. Zelner discussed his book 鈥淩abble in Arms: Massachusetts Towns and Militiamen during King Philip's War."  Zelner's talk focused on the first major military crisis to affect the Massachusetts Bay Colony and drew on muster and pay lists to demonstrate that Essex County鈥檚 more upstanding citizens were spared from the draft while the 鈥渞abble鈥 were forced to fight.   • At the 2023 Mississippi Book Festival in Jackson, the Dale Center sponsored the "America at War" panel, which was televised by C-SPAN.  The panel was moderated by Dale Center Founding Director Dr. Andrew Wiest.  The panel featured the Dale Center's Dr. Heather Stur discussing her new book 21 Days to Baghdad: General Buford Blount and the 3rd Infantry Division in the Iraq War (Osprey, 2023), along with authors Chris Wimmer, Peter Cozzens and E.R.   • At the 2022 Mississippi Book Festival in Jackson, the Dale Center sponsored the panel, 鈥淲orld War II from the Air,鈥 which was televised live on C-SPAN. Moderated by award-winning syndicated editorial cartoonist and author Marshall Ramsey, the panel explored the Second World War from the perspective of air combat operations. The featured presenters were Kevin Maurer, author of Damn Lucky: One Man's Courage During the Bloodiest Military Campaign in Aviation History and James M.
